Education Networks
Here I've taken the education "cohorts" I analysed early on in the project to connect women by institution and overlapping years (UCL students also had to share subjects). So pairs who were at a college together for three years have wider edges than, say, women who only overlapped for a year.
If we have only a start date or end date for a woman, I've made the (perhaps risky) assumption that she attended for three years. (The extent of inference varied quite a bit for different colleges which can be seen in the dumbbell charts in the linked post.)
As a lot of women only attended one college, this particular network has some very clear clusters. I've added a second filtered chart with dropdown for colleges.
- size of node reflects level of connectedness (degree)
- (in this case, large nodes may indicate longer than usual periods in education, like Annie Abram at LSE)
- width of edges reflects number of links between the pair (link weight)
- colour for auto-detected clusters
Overview
interactions:
- hover over a node to temporarily highlight its network
- click on node to make highlighting stick
- click outside nodes to reset
(hover and click can be a bit temperamental)
Individuals
Select names from the dropdown to see their personal networks.
